Licensing Advice

Natural England requires strict proof that non-lethal deterrents have been tried and failed before granting lethal control (A06) licences.

Continuous Record

You must provide at least one month of continuous daily records leading up to your application to prove ongoing pressure.

Variety is Key

Logs showing only one method (like just firing a gas gun) are often rejected. You must demonstrate a "multi-faceted" approach utilizing visual, auditory, and physical deterrents interchangeably to prevent bird habituation.

Deterrent Methods Guide

Visual: Human presence, kites, or reflective tape. Move frequently to prevent habituation.
Audio: Gas cannons or alarm calls. Best used irregularly alongside visual methods.
Shooting to Deter: Using blanks or live ammo fired near birds to scare them. Strictly non-lethal.
Physical: Netting, overhead wires, or fish refuges to restrict access to the water.
