It's the platform's first complete winter. There are 12,179 cormorant reports on the system covering 70,326 birds, across all four UK countries, and the winter roosts start forming within weeks. The most useful reports are the early ones, before the birds settle.
What we'll cover
It's ninety minutes now, not an hour. Natural England and the Angling Trust are both presenting and both taking questions, and two presentations with two question slots don't fit into sixty minutes.
We'll start with the platform: what Hydroscape is, what to record from now and through the winter, and how to do it in under a minute at the bank. Then a live HydroLicence run over a real venue, so you can see what a licence evidence pack actually looks like when it's built from real reports rather than assembled from memory in November.
The middle hour is theirs. Natural England will cover non-lethal methods and what they look for in a licence application. The Angling Trust will cover the benefits and application of habitat and non-lethal methods. Both take questions. These are the people who decide how cormorant management works in this country, and they've agreed to answer yours.
Then a case study from Peterborough and District Angling Association on getting an area licence, a recap of what to do this winter, and open questions until we run out.
